After 22 years working in a variety of therapeutic settings including wilderness therapy programs and therapeutic boarding schools, Jeremy Nunnelley, LPC, now draws on his experience to assist families with children transitioning back home. Being familiar with the work done and progress made in both wilderness and TBS settings, Jeremy is well-positioned to help families during this important time.
Transition coaching begins with a focus on retaining the progress made and expands into continual strengthening of the family after residential treatment. When transitioning from residential treatment to life at home, families are challenged with balancing the tasks of establishing and maintaining boundaries in the home environment while also nurturing improvements in family relationships. There is tremendous opportunity in this transition, and, with high-quality coaching, families can develop their relationships in ways that benefit them for years to come. .
Jeremy has developed a method of transition coaching that builds a sense of connection and empowerment for each family member as well as develops skills for making corrections. Connections are strengthened through developing communication skills and habits that help everyone feel understood and capable of understanding others. Common goals and agreements are an area of focus as well as infusing relationships with a sense of play. Family members feel empowered as their autonomy is acknowledged while healthy boundaries are established and healthy boundary-setting behaviors are practiced. Parents and caregivers learn effective skills for correcting problem behaviors, and teens learn helpful strategies for approaching things they see as problems.
With Currahee Counseling and Coaching Services, transition coaching includes sessions with parents/caregivers, sessions with the child returning from treatment, and sessions that include both parents/caregivers and the child. Other family members may be included as needed. Services are billed per session, and there is no contract to sign. Families may choose the level and length of service they need.
